That's my point ! U felt like complaining , right ?

mark_docent SG

Who is paying for the journey? U??? or passengers? IT IS NOT ABOUT WHAT CABBIES LIKE OR DISLIKE, ITS ABOUT THE PASSENGERS. U dislike about it so much, don't drive taxi lah... go find a job. There are more taxi drivers out there who don't mind taking passengers to 4 different places.

When you have a job, you complaint so much about the job. When the job gone to the foreigners, you complaint government didn't take care of you! Look yourself in the mirrior lah uncle. Don't forget uncle, these demanding passengers who are the one who pay you money and put food on your table for your family to eat!

Volvo Olympian SG

Hey hey hey!!! Stop fighting here can? PEACE

dragg SG

it is not uncommon among the young to take a cab to 4 different locations.

dragg SG

the taxi driver only earn less, not lose money.

LazerLordz SG

the young seem to be an irritating bunch these days.

I didn't recall doing so when I was younger? Maybe just that we don't clusterfcuk everywhere we go..

Damn, even going home must go together? Please man...

I agree on line number 4.

Poolman SG

When u don't need me , i will hunt for customer who need me .

When customers , especially many customers hunting for cabbies , then it's "supply & demand " theory liao , many demand , less supply , u pay more ! Less demand , many supply , you does not need to pay more .

That's why many has to ON-CALL for taxi during a certain time , we are train to distinguish when are the time when " supply & demand" comes in .

Lesson is:

1. ALWAYS Speed call
2. Never tell operator you are going more than 1 place
3. The driver is OBLIGED to go multiple destinations. If he refuses, take down his number and complain to the taxi company, copy to LTA, your MP and the Minister/Perm Sec. Threaten to write to the press unless the matter gets resolved.
4. Petition the government for more cabs and to bring in foreign workers to drive our taxis

Taxi drivers with poor service attitudes should be removed from our streets. There are plenty of foreign workers waiting to fill their jobs. UK taxi drivers are mainly Pakistani and Banglas...they do an equally good job..

SBS9818A SG

The foreign drivers in the UK have become naturalized citizens. They have been staying in the UK for the past 20-30 years and are of course familiar with their city by then. I won't expect a foreign worker to be able to drive a taxi in Singapore instantaneously! I daresay the foreigners driving a S'porean taxi will screw up!

Moreover, cab drivers in the UK earn far more than their Singaporean counterparts.

oxford mushroom SG

Not true..many of the Pakis drivers can hardly speak the language. Singapore is even smaller and easier to familiarize....with a GPS system in the cab, any foreigner can drive a cab in Singapore within a week. I am suggesting that to the taxi companies and LTA...so many local drivers don't know the roads in Singapore anyway.

pwnz0r SG

Poolman, it is obvious you hate many customers, and especially you hate the money being earned and you hate the regulatory bodies. Seriously, don't be a taxi driver if you have so much issues.

Why don't you do something more useful, like maybe run for opposition MP during the next elections? At least you complain about everyone, surely got some joker will support you.

pwnz0r SG

You win at life.

Driving a taxi isn't exactly a skilled job. Should start giving feedback on all these poor taxi drivers. Don't buck up? Bye bye.

SBS9889U SG

What makes you think that with GPS, the foreigners would know very well?Like u said the drivers cant speak the language, what makes u think the tamils/Banglas can?Afterall, they may speak only Tamil back in their country and you expect them to fetch only customers from little india? Striking off a coversation with the driver then would be very hard, and when does not really understand each other, especially we speaking singlish, both parties may not feel warm or being courteously treated. How about on calls and so on? They may not be able to know everything by their fingertips and u expect singaporeans to wait for them to call this and that to confirm? NO WAY! On the other hand, it seems that Poolman can and has much experience. Hes just venting angers about somethings that he see and i do not see what is wrong with that as he isn't in the wrong in the first place!

oxford mushroom SG

Open up to Indians and Chinese drivers...Indian/bangla/Pakis drivers can speak good enough english to work in UK they can do the same in Sg. I want taxis to be cheap and efficient...striking conversation with the passenger is NOT the job of the driver.

In UK, these foreigners work for the radio cab company. Passengers just need to call the company and they will despatch the driver to your location. No additional charges for call out or booking...in fact, they are cheaper than the big london cabs that ply the streets. The london cabs are driven by local whites but they have to pass a stringent exam before they can get the license.

Get FT to drive radiocabs in Singapore. No booking fee at all...so local drivers who ply the streets have to work harder rather than playing punk all the time. FT who drive radiocabs are paid fixed salary...they are despatched from job to job by the company. Local drivers will have to work harder rather than pick their passengers.

where gt uncommon.. its been a common thing since i remember.

when i was young we always go home together one. as long not in opposite direction.

cuz late le, its scary to go home alone on a cab. got frens to company feel safer and haf someone to tok to.

den the uncle some rare times nice nice wld round the cost down some more. i remember at least once or twice.

SBS9889U SG

Go UK then.

LazerLordz SG

We don't need more FTs, not in the transportation industry. Rolling Eyes

I had a nice cabby who told me the history of Lim Chu Kang Village in the 1970s and 1980s, during one trip in a photography outing. He gave me many ideas and tips for heritage/editorials with regards to Simpang Neo Tiew and Simpang Hong Toh (sic)

What would a foreigner know about the history of Singapore.Schooled at the STB by some idiotic programme which would probably pay lipservice to real narratives of the common man-in-the-street and replaced by some sanitised version?

No thanks.

Similarly, I would be pissed if the damned cabbie in UK knew jack balls about the real unsanitised history of Knightsbridge or some podunk village.

Another cab driver shared with me tales about the cemeteries and clan burial grounds off Kheam Hock and Tanglin Halt. Not to mention the origin of why Beauty World was called "7 batu".

No doubt, some of the newer ones are lazy, but the industry is one that will force them to improve. We don't need to have another short-term and myopic solution to the failings of new, fresh cabbies.

Say no to foreign permits to cabbies. Let them stay Singaporean.

oxford mushroom SG

We have to be clear about the core mission of the taxi service. Frills are fine for those who would pay a premium, but for the majority, it's just a means of transportation to get from one point to another. Taxis play an important role in the public transport system and has to be cheap, efficient and convenient to discourage others from owning private vehicles.

Taxi drivers are having too good a life, so much so that they can pick and choose which passenger to take, where to go, when to work. As Poolman admits, commuters may find it harder to find a a cab during the World Cup season 'cos lots of them aren't working but are watching telly at the coffee shop. They are not hungry enough.

It is well known that it is near impossible to find a cab on rainy days, during peak hours and in remote areas. Some cabbies will not take passengers to army camps because they are located far from the beaten track.

A radiocab system like that in the UK will force local cab drivers to work harder and make it easier for commuters to find cabs even in remote areas and on rainy days. Taxi companies will not lose money with radiocab...they will earn more by paying a fixed salary of 1k or less to foreigners to drive radiocabs purely on a booking basis. The booking fee can be abolished and local drivers will work harder to ply the steets. It will be good for commuters.

Taxi drivers had it too good for too long. Have put forward my suggestion to LTA and the taxi companies...we'll see.

Poolman SG

No ! I dislike , not hate , a few type of customers only ....... i'm ok with majoirty customers .

If some people here has a dislike for taxi drivers , please go take a bus and MRT , like wise .

You can't tell to do things i like or doesn't like , true ?

The issues here is caused not by me alone , it's a two-way traffics , without this non-sense , taxi drivers won't dulan customers for nothing .

Why ? Cos some people think got money to take taxi really big deal , and think they must be treated like GOD !

Customer service is a must i agree , but not til the extend taxi drivers must give you their head to satisfy you , even if you're wrong !

Two ways traffic la .

Poolman SG

Foreigner to drive our taxi ?

Hahahahaha ........ let's hope it doesn't happen .

First I need a translator ! Mr. Green

Secondly , if i do not know the place that i'm going ....... how ? He also dunno how ? He don't even know how to use the Road Directory , how ? GPS ? Problem is , he don't even know the road name , how to use GPS ?

eg , if i want to Sembawang by CTE/SLE ..... he'll ask : How to go Sembawany ?

"BY CTE "

" How to go CTE " ?

"By Istana side ! "

"How to go by Istana side ? "

Upon reaching CTE , he go straight until woodlands ...... then he say : " Where's Sembawang ? "

Then u all know ?
Mr. Green
